9.5kW Instantaneous Electric Shower - NEW. The box was never opened because we changed our mind and installed a power shower.

I think 9.5kW is too powerful.
How do I find out if it is suitable? I have a 40watt fuse but I thought electric wire has to be 10mm

It should be installed by a qualified electrician. It is the equivalent to 3 electric kettles, what you need if you want a fairly powerful hot shower rather than a pathetic cold dribble.

It would need the same sort of electrical installation as a cooker.... I think, but I'm not an electrician.

Just read the information on the box...
The shower should be permanently connected to the electricity supply through a double pole linked switch with a minimum break capacity of 40 amp.

Cable size - 6mm^2 (for most installations). For some it may be necessary to use 10mm^2 cable.

They do need the same supply as a cooker which means a lead directly from the fuse board.

It is now 'illegal' to DIY most electrics. Another example of over zealous PC and jobs for the boys. It cost electricians at least 200 to get qualified.

However, all the parts and wire are readily available for you to give to your qualified electricians and a nod is as good as a wink to a blind 'wink ;)' horse.

I would say 10mm cable but you wouldnt want less than 9kw or in cold weather like we had recently you have slow the water to a trickle to get it hot

I currently have a Gainsborough ES 500 shower which is rubbish.

Can anyone tell me what size electric wire this would run off? Is it 10mm. If so could I upgrade to a 8.5 or 9kW shower without the cost of re-wiring?
