Bob sorry to hear about your fish but a tip before the next time it freezes.... float a ball on your pond and when the surfaces freezes remove the ball and drain off about 2cm of water. If it continues to be freezing the water will freeze again, but the double ice glazing will stop the pond from freezing solid.

I used to buy kamikaze goldfish (50p wonders), but I gave up the fight with the heron - he got up earlier than me. sad :(laugh :D

I too have lost nearly all my koi fish this winter - the worst since 1910!
I also know of many other people who have lost their pond fish as well! Not too sure what the answer is but I think it may to be increase the depth of the deepest part of the pond if possible to at least 3ft6 or 4ft deep. Keep the water level very high high and turn off your pump before that freezes too.
I to am on the look out for new fish but not until spring time.

Hi
Do not do anything in this weather wait until the warmer weather comes. This information was given toi us by our local specialist who built our pond. If you have a filter system leave this running during the cold weather as this prevents the pond freezing completely our pond has been fine all winter. Hope this helps.
