Bit of advice needed please.

Is it wise to plant saplings in this weather? I understand that it is not ideal to plant tree's when there is frost on the ground let alone plenty of snow and there is the possibility that the weather is not going to warm up by the weeekend in fac the night minimums look to be getting lower and there is also a possibility of another round of snow by the weekend.

I am no tree expert so any advice would be most welcome happy :)

They need to be planted out sooner rather than later. Having said that, Planting cannot take place when the ground is frozen. Looking at the forecast, I would delay planting for another week. The saplings need moisture round the roots whilst in storage to stop them drying out.

Trees to be planted at Silsden Park
8:00am Sunday 7th April 2013

Sixty tree saplings are to be planted in Silsden Park.

Silsden Environmental Group recently received a delivery of cherry, rowan and silver birch trees, along with a Royal oak, from the Woodland Trust. The event had been due to take place on Sunday last week, but was postponed because of the weather.

Now town councillors Madeline Bell-Jump and James Jump, who are members of the group, are hoping that the weather will allow the planting to go ahead next Sunday, April 14 at 10.30am.

Participants should meet next to the bowling pavilion.

The project is being carried out in partnership with Silsden Town Council, which has donated 150 to provide tree shelters for the saplings.

For more information, contact Madeline on 07757 085140 (evenings only) or James on 07757 085180 (evenings).

Hopefully the weather will be dry tomorrow, so it should be the ideal time to get planting. See you at 10:30, by the pavilion.

I bought a magnolia tree, I thought it would be a lasting memory of my mum. I didnt do my homework and growing upto 4m high with a spread of 3m its miles too big for our garden.
So is there somewhere public it could go, maybe the park, memorial garden, church yard?
Its only 18" high at the moment so needs a bit of care.

this post has been edited 1 time(s)

Just putting my 2 pence worth in. It might be better given the significance of the tree it might be better to hold off for now and then incoprorate it in the community garden outisde Twisters. That way it is would also be given the regular tlc it will need as part of the maintainence of the garden as the trees in the park are going to get much less attention.
