Mr Cathey, who was born in the town, had developed a large collection of photographs, historical documents and memorabilia.

His research resulted in the publication of three books during the1970s and 1980s, including A Pictorial History Of Old Cobbydale and Silsden In Old Picture Postcards.

The third book – The History Of Silsden Fire Brigade – reflected Mr Cathey’s own years of service as a retained fireman.

Mr Cathey, a former sub-postmaster, was educated at Keighley Boys’ Grammar School and began his working life in the RAF.

Like his father before him, he served for several years as a parish councillor.
At this point i would like to pay tribute to Neil for all his hard work re RECONSTITUTION. SILSDEN ARLFC 1978--92 This extract from THE STORY OF RUGBY LEAGUE IN SILSDEN by Steve Pyrah. In October 1978 Allan Bancroft ,who had played with the old club in it's final season decided to reform Rugby in Silsden . He contacted Neil, Duncan Robertson and between them contacted potential players and committee men. The Committee charged with the task of organizing the clubs re launch , boasted an amazing 23 members , they included Bridge land lord Bert Wigglesworth ( President ) and ex-players Walter smith (Secretary) Neil Cathey (Assistant Secretary), Allan Bancroft ( Chairman ) and Peter and Jack Anderton. Peter was steward of the british legion club, now sunnybank . Neil was well respected at the club, he also coached the Team He was sadly missed when he stood down in 1992.
