Anybody going to the cenotaph to commemorate the centenary of the First World War breaking out this evening?

This weekend's exhibition at the town hall will provide another opportunity to reflect on Silsden's Story in the First World War.

See how the street where you live was affected.

A few tickets also remain for the Friday evening performance, when some very powerful and moving letters from Silsden lads at the front will be read.(Available at Twiggs)

SILSDEN'S STORY IN THE GREAT WAR

Hosted by the Silsden Local History Society - FRIDAY AUGUST 8th., SATURDAY 9th. and SUNDAY 10th in the Town Hall.
A unique weekend of history and remembrance charting the story of our town during 1914 - 1918 and beyond.

FRIDAY 2.00-4.30pm Exhibition of Silsden's Story opened by David Locker. Free.

7.30pm "The Path Across the Heather" poetry, readings and a revival by Silsden Community Productions of ‘The Masqueraders’, a local group of singers and comedy artistes which entertained wounded soldiers from 1916. Tickets £5 from Twiggs.

SATURDAY 9.30am - 4pm Exhibition in the Town Hall - free; British Legion Cafe, Children's corner.

12.30pm "Reflections" - a recital by Silsden Singers.

2.00pm "From the Menin Gate" - a tribute by Steeton Male Voice Choir.

7.30pm "The Path Across the Heather" - as Friday

SUNDAY 10.30am - 3pm Exhibition in the Town Hall - free; British Legion Cafe, Children's corner.

2.00pm Remembrance - music from Silsden Town Band.

3.30pm Service of re-dedication for the Silsden Book of Remembrance @ St.James Church with refreshments to follow.
