Silsden Sports Club had surprise visitors today when Sports Minister, Helen Grant MP. Kris Hopkins MP. and a couple of their aids arrived for a very short notice appointment.

She was in the area and had heard off Kris how hard the 40 + volunteers worked to make Silsden AFC a top rated Charter Standard Community Club.

He had also told her about our 1914 WW1 ceremony and how enjoyable it was, and not the solemn service they have to usually attend. He said he could not believe how many had turned up and how refreshing it was to hear Silsden Brass Band and the choir on such good form.

She was given a presentation package of a brief history of the cricket and football clubs and applauded the work done to give 250 boys and girls regular weekly sport.

She said she would certainly back us on current and future ventures and whilst not giving either club credit for this, said there cannot be many sporting facilities in such a more stunning setting.

Kris Hopkins said he was local through and through and would always give us any support he can and Helen said she would put our case forward for the need for our proposed extension funding.

Helen was presented with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the people of Silsden by club Chairman and local business man John Lohan.

Well done to all the hard working team at Silsden sports club, justly deserved recognition. A great venue for all the young budding Beckhams of Silsden.
Also to all the older generation that give their time so freely to the youngsters, well done.

Yes, saw the report and photo of two Silsden sporting stalwarts (over 80 years involvement in Silsden sport between them) with Kris Hopkins MP and Helen Grant MP inside front page of Saturday's T&A

Ockin - couldn't give a flying fig if there is an election coming up!
If we can seize the opportunity to improve Silsden and the local community then let's go for it!!
A 3g would be fantastic especially as people are talking about a new school instead of Tescos. The two could go hand in hand!

Probably, so if it wasnt Silsden it would be somewhere else. So when choosing somewhere to go it makes you proud they chose Silsden having heard good reports of the hard work put in by volunteers down there
