The company has now announced the ‘community exhibition consultation’ on June 11 from 4pm to 7pm in Silsden Methodist Church.

By David Knights (Keighley news)

DRAFT PLANS for 55 houses on land near the busy main road through Silsden will be unveiled next week.

Townspeople are being invited to a consultation event on June 11 hosted by the company behind the proposals for land off Sykes Lane.

Harron Homes first revealed its outline plans for the derelict site – which lies between Keighley Road and the Leeds Liverpool Canal – in 2012.

The company has now announced the ‘community exhibition consultation’ on June 11 from 4pm to 7pm in Silsden Methodist Church.

The company said it would show people its emerging plans for an “exciting” new development of approximately 55 homes.

Local residents will be able to comment on the draft proposals and complete a questionnaire, before Harron Homes submits a planning application to Bradford Council.

The land off Sykes Lane was allocated for housing as part of Bradford Council’s Local Plan Core Strategy, which earmarked Silsden for 1,200 new homes before 2030.

Earlier this year the council approved a new access road to the site, even though no plans had then been submitted for housing.

The new road will run from Keighley Road across wasteland that lies between two unadopted side streets, Millbank and Albert Square.

The two side streets would be blocked off at their junctions with Keighley Road, and instead they would have new entrances and exits to the new access road.

The Sykes Lane site is one of several pieces of land on the Keighley side of Silsden that are likely to be developed for either housing or retail over the next few years.

A previous planning application for 120 homes on Sykes Lane, submitted by Taylor Woodrow Developments, was approved by Bradford Council in 2008.

What is the latest on this development? I notice that the Council have now stopped people parking on the strip of land between Albert Square and Millbanks

This action is not specifically linked to the proposed building of 55 houses per se.
The dilapidated fence surrounding the BMDC plot was "breached" along its Sykes Lane and bottom of Albert Square borders, thus forming an easier access to the bottom of Sykes Lane for the tippers and others than having to navigate the whole of Sykes Lane from its junction with Keighley Road, near the canal bridge. It immediately became the default access, vehicle tracks to prove, and that is why BMDC put up notices and blocked the breach at the Albert Square end.

Must agree, Pennypeck, I saw a vehicle full of rubbish at the bottom gates a little while ago, the driver opening the gates by Keighley Road. I assume that his load was destined for disposal down Sykes Lane.
