Disruptions likely on Keighley Road near Aldi while Bradford remove the collapsed concrete bridge damaged by the Boxing Day floods.

Emergency road closure at Silsden

The main road into Silsden is to be closed from tomorrow (Tuesday) night until Wednesday morning so that urgent repairs can be carried out to a collapsing bridge.

Movement of the supports (abutments) of the privately owned bridge, which is off Keighley Road (A6034), 60 metres north of Belton Road, is already causing problems on the footway and if urgent action is not taken, it is likely to obstruct the road.

If it is left it could fully collapse, affecting electricity, gas and telecommunications infrastructure in the area.

To carry out the necessary repairs safely, Bradford Council Highways engineers have ordered a closure of the A6034 from 8pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 15 March) until 6am on Wednesday (16 March).

This will enable contractors to lift off the deck of the bridge by crane in order to rebuild and strengthen the abutment. The strengthening work will then be done afterwards using temporary two-way traffic signals on the A6034 over a period of time - the time this work will take cannot be determined until the deck has been removed.

A diversion route on to the A629 towards Skipton and back on the A65 towards Addingham will be signposted. The Council Highways team is working with North Yorkshire County Council and emergency services to prepare appropriately signed diversion routes for traffic.

It is not possible to divert traffic through Kildwick because of narrow roads and weight restrictions. Access will be maintained for residents up to the point of closure.

Typical of Bradford council, All night to lift a small piece of concrete?
Skippy would have away in less than an hour.
I hope there isn't an emergency here or over in the Wharfe Valley, and why have traffic lights to put it back/ It hasn't been used for years.

If my memory serves me well, that bridge was built by a local farmer to allow access to their farm, primarily for milk trucks, avoiding the long route into Silsden and under the culvert. At a time when Belton Road did not exist. If this is the case will not ownership of and responsibilty for the bridge have passed to the current owners of that land?

We're to big to go under tunnel.
They can use Belton road now only 1 farm left don't think they do milk.

It will take a while to lift because the girder goes into the pavement, which is the reason the pavement is lifting and uneven at that point. If it was just lifted out all the services would be taken out with it (remember the pipes hanging down when the wall collapsed by the Aldi entrance).

Why would the bridge be replaced it is no longer used and on the road side a wall seals it off ie it's a bridge going nowhere and now redundant.

The traffic lights outside Twiggs and Been Busy went around lunch time, maybe before. A water leak apparently, but they got on with it pretty quickly.

This is probably the wrong place to put this on, but I can't find the correct post.
First question, when is the work starting to rebuild the walls on Keighley Rd from the garage to Belton Rd?
Second I have learnt today that Harran homes are to have traffic lights on Keighley in the next weeks whilst they lay a top water drain down Keighley Rd to where they can get access to the beck.
This could mean we will have two sets of traffic lights on the same stretch of road at the same time.
I have tried looking on the Bradford web site but it comes up with an error message.
