Bolton Road - Silsden |
August 21, 2001 Traffic delay is the order of the day in Silsden as Transco dig the road up to replace gas main pipes A statement from Transco 20 August 2001 GAS MAINS SCHEME IN SILSDEN Gas pipeline company Transco has started to renew gas mains for a major replacement scheme in Silsden. The £30,000 scheme involves replacing over 250 metres of iron gas main along Bolton Road from Kirkgate to Pickard Lane. The work is part of Transco's national commitment to replace iron mains with modern plastic pipes, which have a far longer lifespan. In Yorkshire this amounts to around 215km of pipe every year at a cost of £32 million. Transco's Network Operations Manager, Dave Meesam based in York said: "People take their gas supply for granted because Transco's transportation system is so reliable. Work like this replacement scheme in Silsden is essential to ensure it continues operating as safely and efficiently as ever. Eventually all gas pipes will be made from modern polyethylene (PE)." Work on the project is started this month and should last no more than six weeks. However, drivers may face some disruption with temporary traffic lights, as gas engineers work to replace the main in 100 metre stretches. Transco engineers have worked very closely with Bradford City Council and will hold regular meetings to minimise inconvenience as much as possible. One way in which Transco will be minimising disruption is by using a guided moling device for drilling holes for pipes without the need for digging/laying ducting. Ends/. |
