The Rev Peter Greenwood (Vicar of St James's) ringing the number 5 bell.

24 October 2001

At 6.30 pm Wednesday 24 October 2001 Silsden bells rang once again. The bells had been silent for many years because the tower was too weak to support full circle ringing. Thanks to an anonymous donation and the hard work of parishioners, the tower, bells and clock have now been restored.

On Wednesday night the bells once more sounded across the roofs of Silsden, rung by ringers from Skipton and Kildwick. New Silsden ringers are currently being trained by members of Skipton's Holy Trinity Church. Soon the Silsden band will be able to ring their own bells.

If you would like to become a member of Silsden Bell Ringers please contact Rev Peter Greenwood on 01535 652204

The Bells Return to St James, the six bells (tenor 11-1-21) were removed from the tower at the end of April this year. They have now been remodelled to create a lighter six, using bell number 4 as the tenor. The two largest bells are being set aside and will be sold singly or as a pair when a suitable home (or homes) is identified for them. After retuning at Eayre & Smith's works the four original Warner bells have a tenor which weighs 6-3-6 (364 kg). The two trebles were cast by Eijsbouts and were installed by Eayre & Smith.
