The Changing Face of Stakes Beck

Over the years Stakes Beck, Silsden  (the duck pond to some) has changed. Some might say for the better and others for the worst. The fact remains that this area has been a focal point for Cobbydalers for many years. At one point the town council considered enclosing it to make a car park, but looking at the flood pictures this was probably a non-starter. One thing is certain the beck has always flooded.

The following pictures of Stakes Beck area are from various ages past. Look out for the wall along Kirkgate, the telegraph poles, the Methodist Church behind the Post Office, the stepping stones, the flood levels.
